What I’d like you to do for this week’s poetics is simply write a poem about what October means to you.
Tell us in your own verse. What does October mean to you?
Season Of Falling Leaves
October with its falling leaves
Embraces me steadily
Like a mouth full of sturdy teeth
Strong and ready to munch through pumpkin pie
To light a candle and look up at the stars
October is a bright red apple
Full of the burst of life and weighing firmly in my hands
Now I can taste its flavour
It is full of life – of hope
And new beginnings
Enough to quench my thirst and hunger
Almost certainly, good enough for now
October is a freshly baked pie
Cooling on the window sill
Ready to be devoured
And juggled between tiny, jam-smudged fingers
October is the here and now
What is, what was, what can be
(If I so choose)
It is a time of nesting, of finding comfort
Inside and out
October is a loosely buttoned coat
Worn and loved
A protective shell
Embracing me as I step back into the world
October is renewal – life on the brink of shedding its summer weight
It is orange and red and dusky yellow
A pleasure to gaze at its ever changing skies
October just is –
And it is, almost certainly, good enough for now.
Thank you for visiting!
