Use the title “The Song My Paddle Sings” as a springboard for your poem.
You might decide to write a seasonal poem or perhaps you have spent some time canoeing or kayaking and wish to share your adventure. What song does nature sing to you? Let’s dip our paddles in and navigate our way to poetry. I look forward to traveling the waterways with you.
Drifting
We are drifting towards the horizon
Today it is bright and sunny
And the beach washes up on the shore
Like a fine black line drawn between now and then
We like these crisp, well defined days
When the sun still shines
But the air is cool as strawberry ice cream
Savoured on our tongue in summer
We drift in and out of sleep – tired and content
Pleased with the knowledge we are gathering little by little each day
Alice collects shells – blue and sparkly
Just like her little dress
She puts the shells in her pocket
They rattle like coins and she hums a contented song
We are much happier now, I think
Now we allow ourself to believe we can be
Happiness is not a coursing wave
But the gentle drop-drop of the morning dew
As we live and drift through life
The song my paddle sings
Is one of movement and joy – renewal and hope.
