We’ll invite you to write poetry or prose inspired by Autumn (rituals, foods, colors, celebrations… or anything that makes autumn memorable and/or special).

Autumn Warmth

It makes my heart and eyes soar to watch every

Crisp, falling autumn leaf tumble to the ground

It feels like shedding skin – coming to the penultimate stop of the year

A time when it is cool enough to walk comfortably

But no rain or snow to slip on and tumble down underground

The russets and reds coat my boots

I draw my bright orange coat around me

Drink hot chocolate in the pumpkin-laden coffee shop

Watching the world – and people – go by

How distant that would have seemed

Only a month, a year, a moment ago

Alice is resting whilst I gather my worldly speed

Far from powder and things that pained me

It is strange, how I have arrived at this point

Another year – one I didn’t expect

One I didn’t even hope for or want

But the sweet warm chocolate gliding down my battered throat

Makes me smile a little- here is Autumn in all her glory

And for the first time in so long I am rising up to greet her –

Like a phoenix from the flames.
