I am not concerned with what I may leave behind

But rather what I make of today –

How I am to people

What I may make them feel –

If anything at all –

Either is fine

I do not expect many years to come

But I would like what I am gifted to be light and with room to grow

To end in a better place inside from where I began and dwelled in for far too long

I would like to go gently into the night

And turn my dreams and wishes into stars

A light, untouchable, but seen.

I think your light has always been visible – though perhaps there were times when you felt you were sharing only darkness. In any case, this lovely poem is full of sweetness and hope, along with your usual honesty and dignity. Applause!

This poem is so positive, Jae, and the final lines are beautiful. I’m glad you’re on WordPress with a fresh new look.

All our legacies will likely be forgotten, very few have made it through 4 or 5 thousand years. So we may as well live in the now.

    Nice write Jae 👏

Creating an oasis of light while we’re still here is a lovely and worthy goal.

If you leave people with a sense of your kindness and love, that is a perfect legacy.
