Halloween
In the autumn I come alive. The brown leaves whipping around my sturdy boots. A warm coat tucked up to my chin. A sense of purpose in my stride. I always seemed to land on the other side around Halloween. Tried to carve pumpkins as if I was normal. Cat O’Lantern I remember. But I was far from normal. Perhaps. A different kind of trick and treat rumbled in my past.
My face scarier than any costume
Now I am old I love the oranges and browns. The crisp leaves crackling like electricity. The wind waking me up. Sleeping with the windows open. Snuggled up and warm. Perhaps it is a season to celebrate. An awakening. Of course, says Alice. Squeezing my hand.
Bright night candle shines
I will ignite you and smile
All will be well now.
