For Dverse 14 October 2025
What is Prosery? A very short piece of prose or flash fiction that tells a story with a beginning, a middle, and an end. It can be any genre you choose, but it does have a limit of 144 words. Somewhere within your story, you must include given lines without changing word order or adding any words. You may add or change punctuation.
For your prompt today, I’d like you to use the following lines in your Prosery:
“What will I do there
without my hands upon
your summer face?”
Umbrella
There was a time, before you –
When I was small too
When I used to carry an umbrella
Through sunshine and cloudy days
Always ready for some catastrophe
I was living in a very dark world
One of survival
One I was prepared to fight in
Then came the cleansing rain
And I learnt that I could swim
Bob tides and smile
In now times I still carry an umbrella
But use it only when the clouds gather
And the refreshing rain cleanses my thoughts
And I feel free to jump in puddles
Get a little wet and play
Maybe in new times there will be not need for umbrellas at all
There will be new adventures
Happy and sad moments
But always a consistency of being
What will I do there without your hands upon your summer face
Will I shine too?
Thank you for visiting!
