For today’s Poetics, we will try to make this Tuesday a happy Tuesday. I am sharing titles of some books. You can incorporate one or as many as you like in your poem.

1.The pursuit of Happyness by Chris Gardener

2. Happy Accidents: A memoir by Jane Lynch

3. The ministry of utmost happiness by Arundhati Roy

4. Stumbling on happiness by Daniel Todd Gilbert

5. The Happy Prince by Oscar Wilde

6. The art of happiness by the Dalai Lama

7. More happy than not by Adam Silvera

If the above titles don’t inspire you, you can simply write us a happy poem. The idea is to smile as you write and put a smile on the face of the person reading your poem.

Happiness is..

Happiness is a bright red strawberry on a summer’s day

The way it blushes your lips and cheeks

As you swallow and hum a pretty song

Happiness is a crisp, brown leaf

Which tumbles from the autumn oak tree

That lives outside our window and has been a constant friend

As we learn how to pursue what happiness feels like

And all the little ways in which can brighten our world

As we make tiny little steps towards wellness

Dusting off the earth that still lingers from the Rabbit Hole

We have to learn what make us happy now

As we stretch and grow, nudging at the boundaries

Of what is and what we can hope for

It is has been both an art and a pursuit

The joy is in the journey –

The trips and falls, the smiles and little things

Which all turn into firm concrete building blocks

Strong enough to build our shelter

We can learn what makes us feel good on the inside, and out

There aren’t any guidelines to follow

When chasing a feeling, not a habit

Changing ones which used to make our bodies hurt

And tears flood down our cheeks, unawares

What a long adventure it has been –

To come from the very bottom where there was nothing

To learning how to tolerate softness and care towards ourselves

For a long time we did not realise that happiness

Can come in all the small things, kind favours to our souls

A freshly washed blue dress

A fine porcelain mug full of piping hot tea

Looking up, not down

Breathing deeply and letting the evening air caress out sleeping bodies

Happiness moves with us and changes day to day

But we must never fail to recognise it when it keeps it comes into our life –

All warm and safe and glowing –

As nourishing as the morning rising of freshly cooked bread.
